Satin Vs Sateen
- Nestled in the heart of Kannur, the land of looms and lore, Loknath Weavers Cooperative Society stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of tradition in a world increasingly dominated by machine-made perfection.
- It was here, bathed in the golden sunrise, that the material for Onam dress (2023) for the Prime Minister Narendra Modi was woven, a tribute to their unmatched skill.
- Eighty-five years ago, a group of visionary weavers in Kannur banded together to form the Loknath Weavers’ Cooperative Society. Driven by a shared passion for their craft and a desire to preserve the legacy of handloom weaving, they envisioned a space where weavers could work with dignity, share their skills, and ensure a sustainable future for their families.
- Their journey was not without its challenges. The rise of power looms threatened their livelihood, the vagaries of the market tested their resilience, and changing tastes pushed them to constantly adapt and innovate. Yet, through it all, the Loknath weavers persevered. They held fast to their time-honored techniques, passed down from generation to generation, weaving tales of tradition into every thread.
- Today, the Loknath Weavers’ Cooperative Society is a thriving hub of creativity and skill. Over 85 weavers, 80 women and 5 men, come together under one roof to weave the dreams of Loknath into reality. The air hums with the rhythmic symphony of looms, each beat a testament to their unwavering dedication.
From the delicate elegance of the handloom saree to the vibrant hues of the mundu, each creation is a masterpiece, woven with love and infused with the stories of Kannur.
